It’s seemed like the year hasn’t started yet because my family caught a nasty flu that lasted for a good two and a half weeks! Thankful for recovery and better health these days. The spirits have always been up but it’s hard to push through when you’re not physically well. Hence, what a start to the year!

It was a good reminder to slow down when the time calls for it. Thankful for the ability to work next to my napping Lu while we recovered. I am living my work from home mom life and loving it.

I’ve been dreaming up some exciting things for the upcoming year and my business: a monthly newsletter, new networking opportunities, and adding to the creation portfolio are among some of them.

Already hit some client wins this month and have been getting creative with some clients too. The client connection is probably my favorite part of owning a small business!

Hope you enjoy an ode to January and a peek into more of my creations offline this month. Looking forward to sharing more as the year unfolds. I hope your years have been off to a good start 💙

2024: A year of growth, gratitude, creativity and new beginnings personally and professionally. Thankful for the ability to work through different challenges that came my way and embracing some new opportunities. Growing my family of clients and continuing to foster relationships with the best clients on the planet. Expanding my digital skills to explore creative possibilities I once never imagined, yet now feel like a natural progression in my journey. Taking on projects that have ultimately helped me grow and gain more confidence. Continuing to figure out how to work from home with a, now, toddler. Becoming a parent of a toddler 🤯 and literally growing new life amidst chasing around our sweet, sassy, spunky little lady. Anticipating the arrival of our little boy… soon becoming a family of four. Finally getting to posting Lu’s highlights from her first hotel stay 🩷

This girl had a great weekend in Peoria.

Andrew played with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. Sad we couldn’t attend the concert but we got to hear a clip and he sounded SO GOOD!

It was wild being back in Peoria for something other than the
Air National Guard. But I can’t lie… I’ve missed it.

We had lunch at our favorite restaurant in Peoria Heights to get my fix of the best blue cheese of my life. Swimming. Exploring new places. Hanging out in our hotel room. Delicious Mexican pastries & horchata.

Seems simple but it was just what we needed.

Looking forward to reminiscing on these new memories we made together as a family.

What inspires you? 💭

This is my first step in making an effort to get the ideas from my head onto a canvas, whether digital or physical.

I came up with this quote a few months ago while brainstorming rebranding ideas for the Ameliorate and Create site.

Andrew and I were sitting on the porch of The Green Door Tavern a few weeks ago, and I was INSPIRED—almost overwhelmingly so. There were hand-painted vintage signs everywhere. It felt like heaven.

Here are my first attempts at creating graphics inspired by the vintage, hand-painted signs I absolutely adore.

April 2024 marks 4 years of working from home… 🤯

It’s funny how things work out.

Andrew and I graduated from software bootcamp in January 2020. Didn’t fully realize how long it’d take to land our first software jobs…

I was finally offered an internship that started in April. I remember exactly where I was when I got the offer email. I was standing outside the door of the back offices at a Sam’s Club in Milwaukee. We were charged for an extra item and didn’t realize until we got home.

They thought I was lying so I had to stand outside of the office with the security cameras so they could check the footage from the time I claimed to be there.

I had enough time to check my email… okay let’s be real… at this time in my life I was checking my email almost every five minutes 😬

And that’s when I saw it. A real, live offer letter to be a frontend developer intern.

It’s been a ride. Due to the state of the world when I started my job I never worked in office. I’ve been remote for my entire software journey.

I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Working from home is everything I never truly knew I wanted.

I appreciate the ability to work from anywhere. And do not take this ability lightly.
